To put Nagi's past in more detail:
Nagi was an orphan found by Geirin Kuzunoha the 17th in the Tento Woods. Teased for her fair skin and the light color of her eyes (explained by the fact that the girl is from overseas originally and is stated to be half-Russian, half-Japanese), the girl had fled into the woods to seek refuge among the only friends she knew - devils that apparently only she could see. Her ability to see one Geirin had just killed impressed the older man and when he asked her name, the young girl didn't have one to give him. He dubbed her Nagi and then asked if she would come with him, to which she replied, "Will I make friends?" When he told her she would, Nagi agreed to go with him.

Personality:
When one first meets Nagi, the immediate impression is always "what an odd girl". Devil Summoner is set within Taisho Era Japan and as such, foreigners are rather rare and rather eye-catching. With her fair skin and icy blue eyes, granted to her by her Russian heritage, Nagi stands out distinctly among her Japanese neighbors. And then, there's the way she talks. 'Conjecture', 'theory' and 'process' seem to be Nagi's favorite words, all inherited from the man who took her in as a young child, Geirin Kuzunoha the 17th. While she tends to speak somewhat formally thanks to this, there are times when Nagi will lapse and almost talk like a typical person. She never uses the common 20's slang people like Dahn Tsukigata, Narumi and Tae tend to throw around but she does speak more candidly and openly.

At first Nagi appears cold towards her fellow summoner Raidou, though soon we learn this coldness is for a twofold reason - her own Master's attentions toward Raidou and her conviction that her Master is a much better summoner than Raidou. This coldness fades away once Raidou helps the apprentice summoner with training and also assists her with advice on numerous topics, from dealing with devils and apologizing to her Master to dealing with increasingly poor circumstances within Tsukigata Village.

When she warms up, Nagi displays a much softer side to herself. Nagi's great pride in her Master's abilities comes from her deep devotion to the man. He is the only parental figure the young girl has ever known and given the man's typically cool attitude, Nagi seems to desperately wish to impress him. This wish to impress often causes Nagi to dive into situations before she has thought them thoroughly through, such as training in the Kuzunoha Great Hall without being strong enough for the task. On one hand, this is commendable, as it shows a willingness to pit herself again any situation no matter how tough or dire the outlook may be. On the other, it shows a lack of foresight as well as how easy it is to rile Nagi up.
This is again shown when Geirin goes to unseal a great demon and, after facing off with 14 of the 16 former Geirin Kuzunoha's spirits, falls in battle lamenting his inability to finish his greatest task and thus have something to show to his predecessors. Knowing her Master is quickly fading, Nagi thrusts herself into a fight against one of the Geirin Kuzunohas, proclaiming she will give her Master something to show his predecessors as an accomplishment. "I have something you can show to your predecessors, Master... Please tell them tales of how I've grown under your tutelage!"
While this is a commendable and understandable move, it's likewise a move fueled thoroughly by feelings rather than logical thinking and yet again shows Nagi's ability to be easily flustered and hotheaded.

Likewise, Nagi is very dependent on the approval of others, whether this approval comes from her Master himself or from Raidou. Geirin greets her breaking his rules and entering the Great Hall without his consent with a smile when speaking to Raidou. While he can't condone the act to her directly due to it being a break from his rules, he does condone it on the level of it showing Nagi is gaining independence. She went along that path of action herself, clearly in opposition of him, and to Geirin this shows she is developing the ability to be independent - a much needed accomplishment when it comes to being a Devil Summoner.
This is a slow lesson for Nagi and even now she looks to those she gains respect in for assistance and to tell her the way to handle things. While Nagi is a naturally bright girl who catches on to situations and problems very quickly, this is naturally tempered by this constant questioning of herself and her actions.
In short? Nagi still needs to learn the medium between leaping without thinking and hanging back forever until someone tells her to do otherwise. She's slowly taking those steps though, showing not a lack of spirit holding her back but rather an unwillingness to let others down.

Nagi also seems to be an example of having a softer heart when it comes to Devil Summoners. As a child, Nagi was an outcast. She had no friends other than the devils she could apparently see while none of the other children around her could. To her, devils were her only friends and even now, she shows a great reluctance to see them as mere tools. This empathy also spreads not only to the devils but to others as well. Akane's plight moves her to worry and her fear for the villagers during the end of the game drives her to be more of a commanding leader to them than she normally was, ushering them to safety and protecting them. This makes it easier for her to connect with other people as well as making her job harder on her. She hates seeing devils killed and one has to wonder how she deals with fusions if it means losing devils she has grown to care for.

By the end of the game, Nagi looks up to Raidou both as a superior and as someone she wants to beat in terms of abilities one day, a complete 180 from her attitude towards him when they first met. Hot headed and at times impulsive, Nagi is nevertheless very willing to admit when she is wrong and correct herself accordingly. And perhaps that is Nagi's greatest and strongest trait: the willingness and ability to grow and change.

Possessions:
* Renka: Like all Devil Summoners, Nagi wields a Renka that withstands, holds on to, and absorbs elemental energy, as well as up to fusion processes. Nagi's Renka takes the form of a kodachi.
* Revolver: Like the renka, this absorbs elemental energy and can hold around six bullets.
* Kuga: These tubes are used for housing devils in between times of them being summoned.

Abilities:
* Sight: One natural talent that impressed Geirin was Nagi's ability to see devils without formal training. As such, it's likely Nagi can see a wide range of supernatural creatures other may not. She can also talk to devils and likely can talk to other supernatural creatures.
* Language: In the Japanese version of the game, Geirin and Nagi tend to pepper their speech with random english words. Since Geirin trained quite a bit in America, he's naturally passed on the language to his young pupil. As a result, she can speak English fairly well.
